Why sign-off on the day matters
The week after a job is when the questions start: “you never did that”, “that was already broken”, “we did not agree to that part”. A signature on the day, on a record that shows what you found, what you did and the photos to prove it, ends most of those conversations before they begin. It also lets you invoice the same day, because the customer has already agreed the work was done.
How sign-off works in Maintivo

- If the customer would rather not draw a signature, record that instead, so the report says so
- The PDF with both signatures, your logo and the photos is ready to send before you leave

Is an electronic signature valid?
For most job sheets there is no legal requirement for a customer signature at all; it is simply the clearest proof that the work was done and accepted. Under the Electronic Communications Act 2000, section 7, an electronic signature can be used as evidence of whether a document is genuine. What makes a signature worth having in practice is that it sits on the right record, with the date, next to the work it confirms. For gas safety records, HSE accepts an electronic signature as a way of identifying the engineer.

Common questions
Electronic signatures can be used as evidence in the UK under the Electronic Communications Act 2000, section 7. For most job sheets no customer signature is legally required, but a signature on the day is the simplest proof that the work was done and accepted. For landlord gas safety records the signature the law requires is the engineer’s.
Record that the customer preferred not to sign, so the report says so, and keep the photos and notes of the work. A dated record of the visit is still useful evidence.
